I am a multi-disciplinary artist and I reside in a wild part of Co. Kerry, high on a hill. Wind turbines itch the skyline, swathes of forestry cling to the land. It is wet, windy and boggy, few people live here. It is called Knockalougha which means; ‘the hill above a lake’. The quiet is wonderful, hares and badgers track my garden and the hen harrier flies in full view of my kitchen window… I hear the birds, I hear unfamiliar sounds, I hear the winds at night. Mistle thrushes, ravens, hooded crows are my visitors, to name a few. All sorts of birds flock the fields…lone bees nest in the earth… The sky is awash with colour and the landscape changes constantly with the drama of the weather. Knockalougha is a magical place that ignites my creativity. Within this setting I write poetry, make paintings and let my imagination run with the Irish folklore, myths and pishoguery.
